Dan Tobacco is produced in an old malthouse in Lauenburg, built more than 100 years ago. Andreas Mund is now in charge of development and production after the retirement of master blender Jürgen Westphal. Heiko Behrens and Michael Apitz of Dan Pipe, assist in the creations of new tobacco mixtures.
The blends name comes from Edgar Allan Poe's only complete novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket. It details the harrowing sea adventures of Pym, a stow away on a whaling ship, the Grampus.
